NO17 JULIUS BOCKELT - SCHICHT, BLASE, EFFEKT
Julius Bockelt, born in Frankfurt in 1983, has devoted more than ten years to an oeuvre that is as much about the observation of visual and acoustic phenomena as it is about
the artistic process itself. His artistic roots lie in music. In countless experiments, he traces the source of noise interferences, sound waves and other complex sound
phenomena that form the basis for his works on paper. Seemingly arbitrary shapes of paper are filled with repetitive lines and multiple layers superimposed upon one another,
resulting in small-format works that challenge the viewer despite or rather because of their technical precision.
Bockelt’s photographic work and short films of cloud formations, rainbows, snow crystals and soap bubbles are consistent with his evolving body of work.
Goldstein Gallery is devoting a solo exhibition to its artist Julius Bockelt and will present his drawings and photographic works. A videotape of his musical improvisation
in collaboration with Schneider TM and Sven Fritz, “Superposition” – Bockelt’s own drawings serving as notation – will also be shown.
In an accompanying programme on the 20th of October at 7 pm, Ensemble Moderne’s trombonist Uwe Dierksen will play a composition of Luciano Berio’s, after which he will
attempt an improvisation with the artist.
On October 4th at 11 am, there will be a discussion between Julius Bockelt and Jakob Hoffmann as a part of the series “These Foolish Things”.
